Despite the fact that
the Bible is the most popular book in the world, the Old Testament included in it is still complicated to understand and study. The events described in it seem far away, and sometimes the subjects are brutal.
Explaining the texts of the Old Testament, the author of the course matches them with their cultural and historical facts, recreating a volumetric picture of the multi-layered content of each small fragment of the text.
The course is taught in English. Also, the Russian version of it is available as a separate video course. The English version will provide additional incentives not merely for learning a foreign language, but for the understanding the Bible text itself. You will see how some obscure phrases of the Russian translation of the Old Testament make sense thanks to the work of English language translators of this text, which was originally written in ancient Hebrew.
The structure of the video course includes 3 thematic blocks, each block has 4 lectures for a total of 12 lectures. The duration of one lecture is 20 minutes.
You can watch and listen to lectures for as long and as many times as you like, returning to places that are especially important for you. This is the convenience of video recordings.
Additional materials for lectures prepared by the author of the course can be printed in advance before the lecture begins. They include the text of the lecture itself, a list of specific terms encountered (for the English version of the course), and questions for reflection and discussion with others. You will need these materials to work with the content and to enter the words omitted in the text of the lecture, which the author considers especially meaningful.
In each block, you will have access to a
thematic chat - "Questions on the course." Thematic chat provides an opportunity to share with other participants in the course your thoughts on the material covered, as well as your answers to questions for each lecture. You can exchange ideas and jointly seek answers to emerging questions. The main purpose of the chat is to create conditions that will help all participants gain new knowledge, master the methods of studying the Bible and learn how to apply the material studied in life.
In addition to the main lectures on the educational platform,
6 webinars will be organized for you - 3
webinars with the course author, Janyne Johnston, in English and 3 webinars in Russian with the New Testament lecturer, Father Denis Harin.
The purpose of the webinars is to enable students to see new horizons in studying the Bible, to deepen their knowledge of various genres of Bible books, to expand their understanding of the Bible as books about history and prophecies, which differ from other historical books and from predictions.
You can see
the schedule of webinars on your personal account on the educational platform where the video will be located.
